Orlando, Florida – Lisa Fleming, a 49-year-old mother of four, found solace in Taylor Swift’s music during a difficult time in her family’s life. In September 2023, her adult son faced a life-threatening medical issue when he developed a ruptured esophagus. This medical emergency forced him to be airlifted to a hospital in Orlando, far from their home.

“I lost my job staying by his side, and our world fell apart,” Fleming said. As she faced the stress of seeing her son in critical condition, Swift’s album “Midnights” came into her life, providing her the strength to cope. “The songs spoke to me in a way that kept me moving forward,” Fleming shared.

Throughout their ordeal, Fleming leaned on the lyrics of Swift’s songs for comfort. Inspired by a lyric from “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” she began making friendship bracelets to connect with children in the hospital who were missing out on the festive cheer of Halloween. “Make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it,” the lyric states, leading her to create bracelets that featured words of encouragement and awareness about various medical conditions.

As Halloween approached, Fleming dressed in sparkly Kansas City Chiefs gear and distributed the bracelets to children unable to trick-or-treat. “Everyone loves Taylor Swift,” she remarked, highlighting the joy she brought to the hospital.

After her son was discharged, Fleming transformed her hobby into a small business, launching her Etsy shop, Long Story Short Bracelet Co. The site quickly gained traction among the Swiftie community, resulting in thousands of sales and a fundraising campaign for a wheelchair van for her family.

Fleming expressed gratitude for the support she received. “It only took me talking about my son very briefly for everyone to just jump in,” she said. Swift herself has worked to support shared causes, and Fleming lauded her for bringing awareness to children’s health issues.

Through her journey, the power of music has not only provided comfort to Fleming but has also fostered a sense of community, proving that even in tough times, help and hope can come from unexpected places.
