Montana Grizzlies Unveil Throwback Uniforms for Homecoming Game

MISSOULA, Mont. — The University of Montana‘s football team will don exciting throwback uniforms for their Homecoming game this Saturday. The Grizzlies will wear their copper and gold uniforms to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their first National Championship in 1995.
The announcement was made on October 6, 2025, delighting fans who have eagerly awaited this event. The game will be held at Washington-Grizzly Stadium, where the team will face off against Cal Poly at 2 p.m.
This year’s throwback features an eye-catching helmet decal of “Otto the slobbering bear” for the first time. This logo was previously used in basketball during the 70s, 80s, and early 90s before the school’s colors switched back to maroon and silver in 1996.
The Grizzlies’ original copper, silver, and gold uniforms were introduced in 1967 under coach Jack Swarthout. He aimed to honor Montana’s mining heritage, especially in Butte.
This is not the first time the Grizzlies have proudly worn throwback uniforms. Previous iterations included the 2008 Montana vs. Montana State game and the 2015 celebration of the 1995 team’s 20th anniversary. The last time the team wore the copper jerseys was during a September 2018 game.
Fans hoping to purchase apparel from the new vintage line can find items at local stores and online. Due to high demand, some items are already low in stock but will be restocked soon.
Montana is currently 5-0 and ranked No. 4 in the nation. Fans can catch the game on The Spot – MTN network across Montana, except in Missoula and the Flathead Valley where it will broadcast on KPAX.
