Morgan Wallen Explains His Abrupt Exit from SNL

NEW YORK, NY — Country singer Morgan Wallen clarified his abrupt exit from an episode of Saturday Night Live on March 29 during a recent podcast appearance. Wallen, who was the musical guest, left the stage unexpectedly while credits were rolling, confusing many fans and viewers.
In an interview on comedian Caleb Pressley‘s podcast, Wallen addressed the incident directly. When asked if he was upset with the show, he replied, “No, no, I was just ready to go home. I been there all week.” Wallen’s quick departure came after he offered a brief hug to the episode’s host, Mikey Madison, without acknowledging other cast members.
The singer later posted a photo of a private plane on Instagram with the caption, “Get me to God’s country,” which prompted speculation about his feelings towards the show. Longtime SNL cast member Kenan Thompson expressed surprise at Wallen’s behavior, stating it was not typical for musical guests to leave so abruptly at the end of the show.
<p“He just dipped,” Thompson said in an interview, noting the unusual nature of Wallen’s exit. “It just felt so abrupt. It’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country?”
Before this appearance on SNL, Wallen had previously faced controversy during an October 2020 booking when he violated Covid-19 protocols, leading to his initial invitation being rescinded. He eventually performed on the show in December of that year.
Wallen’s upcoming album, titled I’m the Problem, is set to be released soon. As the singer navigates the fallout from his SNL appearance, he confirmed his satisfaction with the show and looks forward to future performances.
