Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Set to Revive Classic Games

Los Angeles, CA—Digital Eclipse and NetherRealm Studios have announced the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, a major release for fans of the iconic fighting game series. The collection, set to launch later this year, will feature over 20 playable titles from the Mortal Kombat franchise, all enhanced for modern consoles.
The Legacy Kollection will include classic titles starting from the original Mortal Kombat (1992) to Mortal Kombat 4 (1997), along with various arcade, console, and handheld versions of each game. Each title will be equipped with modern enhancements and online play capabilities thanks to rollback netcode.
“Step back into the arena where it all began,” a statement from Digital Eclipse read. “This collection is the definitive historical archive of the franchise’s iconic origins.” With its focus on retro gaming, the collection aims to bring nostalgia while updating gameplay for today’s audience.
The announcement follows the recent success of Mortal Kombat 1, a game that redefined the franchise last month with a soft reboot directed by Liu Kang instead of Raiden. The new game introduced guest characters such as Omni-Man from Invincible and Ghostface from Scream.
“At Digital Eclipse, we specialize in restoring historic games for modern consoles,” said editorial director Chris Kohler. Fans have long awaited an extensive collection of Mortal Kombat games, and Kohler noted that Mortal Kombat has been the most requested title.
In addition to the games, Digital Eclipse plans to include an interactive documentary showcasing the series’ development. This documentary will feature interviews with the series’ co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias, along with a deep exploration into the rich history of Mortal Kombat.
Further details and surprises are expected to be revealed in the coming months, as Digital Eclipse aims to unveil the full scope of the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for additional updates that promise to celebrate the classic fighting games of the franchise.
