Mukesh Ambani to Meet Trump, Qatar Emir Over Business Ties

DOHA, Qatar — Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani is expected to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The gathering aims to strengthen global business relationships as Reliance Industries seeks deeper ties.
Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, will attend a state dinner in honor of Trump at Lusail Palace, according to sources familiar with the plans. The meeting will not include formal business negotiations, but it is viewed as a step towards reinforcing significant relationships with key international stakeholders.
Reliance Industries, India’s largest private-sector company, has established connections with Qatar. The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has previously invested extensively in Reliance’s retail and digital sectors, indicating Qatar’s increasing interest in India’s consumer and technology markets.
Ambani is considered Asia’s richest man and has formed strong ties with major American companies like Google and Meta (formerly Facebook). Both companies have invested in Reliance Jio Platforms, seeking a share of India’s booming digital economy.
A London-based Indian businessman with ties to both the Trump administration and the Qatari leadership is also anticipated to attend the event, though their identity has not been disclosed.
Following a visit by the Qatari Emir to India in February, during which Qatar committed to a $10 billion investment across various sectors, this meeting reflects ongoing efforts to deepen economic ties.
President Trump will head to the United Arab Emirates after his engagements in Qatar, focusing on investment discussions rather than security issues.
The assembly in Doha underscores the role of private-sector leaders in global diplomacy. For Qatar, and firms like Reliance, these informal meetups create chances to align interests and explore collaboration.
India’s growing status as a destination for Gulf investments is supported by its vast consumer market and recent policy reforms. Ambani’s upcoming meeting highlights Reliance’s ambition to emerge as a global business leader.
No formal announcements are expected from the meeting, but it may pave the way for enhanced cooperation between Reliance, the United States, and Gulf economies in the future.
