Munn Reveals Secrets Behind Love Scenes in New Series ‘Your Friends & Neighbors’

NEW YORK — Actress Olivia Munn shared insights into her steamy love scenes with co-star Jon Hamm in the upcoming Apple TV+ series, “Your Friends & Neighbors.” The show premieres on April 11, 2025, and explores complex relationships amid personal turmoil.

During an exclusive interview at the show’s premiere on April 8, Munn, 44, described her character, Sam, as a woman embroiled in a passionate affair with Hamm’s character, Andrew “Coop” Cooper. A former hedge fund manager, Coop is depicted as struggling to recover from a recent divorce.

Munn emphasized the importance of authenticity in their intimate scenes, stating, “There are a lot of sex scenes, and we had extensive conversations about how to approach them before filming.” According to Munn, her character desires a deeper connection, but is only engaged in the physical relationship with Coop. “It’s crucial that we convey her emotional struggle to connect with him through these moments,” she explained.

To achieve realism in their performances, Munn noted that choreography and direction from intimacy coordinators play significant roles. “They function similarly to stunt coordinators, ensuring that the scenes appear believable and genuine,” she said.

Munn recalled a particular scene where she had to portray a biting moment in the bedroom. “I was nervous, but he kept encouraging me with, ‘It’s okay. Bite really hard.’ And I did. He’s a tough guy,” she added.

The series, which has already secured a second season, paints a picture of Coop’s downward spiral after being “fired in disgrace.” He turns to stealing from neighbors in the affluent Westmont Village, leading him to discover dark secrets concealed behind the glamorous lives of his wealthy neighbors.

During the premiere, Munn reflected on her personal experiences that shaped her portrayal of Sam. She revealed, “I’ve been in places where I feel like everything I love has been stripped away from me.” Diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2023, Munn underwent multiple surgeries, including a double mastectomy.

“I feel like I’ve faced moments when life seems unfair and everything is falling apart. But while filming, I wasn’t feeling that way. I have had numerous times in my life when I felt like I was at the bottom,” she shared.

Munn explained that Sam is distinctive from other characters in the show, being a blue-collar mother of two who married into wealth. “The world she inhabits represents safety and stability, but she is right on the verge of losing everything,” Munn stated. “We see her and Jon Hamm’s character at a moment when both of their lives are disintegrating.”

In addition to Munn and Hamm, the series features Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Eunice Bae, Isabel Gravitt, and Donovan Colan.
