Murder Mubarak: A Whodunit Satire Unfolds at Royal Delhi Club
Homi Adajania’s ‘Murder Mubarak’ unfolds at the opulent ‘Royal Delhi Club,’ where a web of suspicion lingers after the unexpected death of employee Leo Mathews, portrayed by Aashim Gulati.
The affluent patron lineup includes once-idol Shehnaz Noorani (Karisma Kapoor), enigmatic Cookie Katoch (Dimple Kapadia), aristocrat Rannvijay (Sanjay Kapoor), former flames Bambi (Sara Ali Khan) and Akash (Vijay Varma), boisterous Roshni Batra (Tisca Chopra), and loyal Guppie (Brijendra Kala).
Playing the astute sleuth, ACP Bhavani Singh (Pankaj Tripathi) steps into the scene, unraveling a tale of blackmail, social climbing, and hidden agendas among the club’s elite.
With a witty script by Gazal Dhaliwal and Suprotim Sengupta, adapted from Anuja Chauhan’s novel, ‘Murder Mubarak’ transcends into a visual satire, blending humor and mystery seamlessly.
The film’s visual burlesque, crafted by cinematographer Linesh Desai and production designers Bindiya Chhabria and Arvind Ashok Kumar, adds layers to the narrative, punctuating scenes with symbolic elements like a talking head and a blood-dripping cake.
While delivering a comedy-laden mystery, ‘Murder Mubarak’ falters in its social commentary attempts, failing to break new ground in critiquing the upper echelons of society.
The engaging performances of the ensemble cast, especially Pankaj Tripathi’s Bhavani Singh and Karisma Kapoor’s Shehnaz, infuse the film with charisma and depth, making it a delightful watch.
