AUCKLAND, Germany — The Hessische Landesmuseum experienced an unexpected surge of visitors over the weekend, drawn in by a connection to Taylor Swift’s music video, “The Fate of Ophelia.” The museum reported hundreds of additional fans, eager to see a painting that inspired the video’s opening scene.
The artwork, created by Friedrich Heyser, features Ophelia from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and has attracted attention since Swift’s video release. Museum director Andreas Henning expressed delight, stating, “It’s a great opportunity to attract visitors to the museum, and we are thrilled that Taylor Swift chose our collection as inspiration.”
Henning also mentioned that the museum attempted to reach out to Swift but has not yet succeeded. The influx of fans highlights how modern pop culture can influence old-world art, drawing new audiences to museums.
The visit from Swift’s fans has created a lively atmosphere at the museum, leading to discussions about the intersection of art and contemporary media.
