Musician Zwai Bala has come to the defense of former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, following criticism of Mboweni’s recent appearance at Polokwane airport alongside Professor Hlengani Mathebula. Bala dismissed the scrutiny of Mboweni’s fashion sense, arguing that there are more pressing issues in the country to focus on.

Amidst comments on Mboweni’s choice of outfit, shoes, and overall appearance, Bala questioned the necessity of such critique when there are significant societal challenges to address. He emphasized that ridiculing Mboweni will not bring about positive change or address historical lessons.

Mboweni has been vocal in the past about criticism towards his fashion style, particularly defending his well-worn shoes as a symbol of humility. In response to comments on his footwear, Mboweni posted a picture showing similar shoes priced online between R1,000 and R3,000, challenging the perception of his attire.

Highlighting the double standards in criticism, Mboweni pointed out the lack of scrutiny towards President Cyril Ramaphosa‘s similar choice of shoes. He expressed a preference for quality English Clarks shoes in size 8.5/9, emphasizing the need for comfort and durability as the country navigates economic challenges.
