Naomi Osaka Tennis L'open 35 De Saint Malo

Saint-Malo, France — Naomi Osaka celebrated her first title since becoming a mother by winning the L’Open 35 de Saint-Malo on May 4, 2025. The former world No. 1 defeated Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan with a score of 6-1, 7-5 in the final of the WTA 125 event.

The victory marked a significant milestone for Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, as it was her first title on clay. She returned to competitive tennis in early 2024 after giving birth to her daughter in July 2023. “Kinda ironic to win my first trophy back on the surface that I thought was my worst,” Osaka said after the match. “That’s one of my favorite things about life though, there’s always room to grow and evolve. Thanks to everyone accompanying me on this journey, I know it’s turbulent but it’s also really fun and I’m grateful.”

This win also pushed Osaka back into the world’s top 50 for the first time since her return to tennis, landing her at No. 48 in the latest WTA rankings. It came after a challenging start to the year where injuries hampered her performance.

The 27-year-old had previously taken breaks from the sport to focus on her mental health, raising concerns about her well-being. Last year, Osaka expressed feeling disconnected from her body as she navigated her return.

Osaka is set to compete next at the WTA 1000 Italian Open, which begins on Wednesday.
