PM Narendra Modi Sworn in for Third Term, Forms Coalition Government
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been sworn in for a historic third term, leading a coalition government after securing two consecutive full tenures with BJP majority. This re-election now parallels the achievement of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who also won three consecutive terms.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to PM Modi and a total of 71 other ministers. Among those who took the oath were prominent leaders such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Nitin Gadkari.
Notably, the new Cabinet reflects the inclusivity of the coalition government, with MPs from various parties being inducted. Two representatives from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh, a key state for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), were among those sworn in.
Several leaders from different regions, including South Asia and the Indian Ocean, are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony, highlighting the significance of the event on a global scale.
Prior to the oath-taking ceremony, PM Modi paid homage to key figures in Indian history at their respective memorials. He visited Raj Ghat to honor Mahatma Gandhi, Sadaiv Atal to remember former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the National War Memorial to pay respects to the soldiers.
