Nathan Lane, known for his comedic prowess and versatile acting skills, makes a return to television in the Season 2 premiere of CBS‘s “Elsbeth.” Set to air on October 17, 2024, this episode, titled “Subscription to Murder,” showcases Lane in a uniquely humorous and tense role. The episode, which will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ the next day, promises to bring both intrigue and comedic relief to its audience.

A spinoff from the critically acclaimed series “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight,” “Elsbeth” stars Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, a peculiar and unconventional lawyer-turned-investigator. The show follows her endeavors as she navigates the murky waters of legal investigations, armed with her unique insights and quirky demeanor.

In this explosive episode opener for the season, Lane plays an uptight opera aficionado named Philip Cross, who becomes a suspect in a murder investigation conducted by Elsbeth. The plot thickens when a womanizing finance executive is found dead, suspected to have been killed by Cross, driven to murder by the distraction of a ringing cell phone during an opera. Elsbeth delves into the mystery, driven by her uncanny ability to see what others might miss.

The premiere also sees the return of supporting characters, with Wendell Pierce portraying Captain C.W. Wagner and Carra Patterson as NYPD officer Kaya Blanke. The team must also face the repercussions of past events linked to another character, Noonan, portrayed by Nathan. These intersecting storylines combine procedural intensity with unexpected humor, a hallmark of the series’ creators Robert and Michelle King.

“Elsbeth” has been gaining traction as one of CBS’s top new shows, averaging 11 million viewers across CBS platforms, including CBS, Paramount+, and CBS TV apps. As the show progresses into the 2024-25 season, viewers can expect guest appearances by renowned actors such as Pamela Adlon, Vanessa Williams, Rob Riggle, and Brittany O’Grady, each bringing their own flair to the already dynamic narrative.
