NBA YoungBoy to Return Home in 2025 After Reduced Sentence in Federal Firearm Case
NBA YoungBoy, the Louisiana-based rapper whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, is set to return home on July 27, 2025, following a reduced sentence for federal firearm violations. Initially facing 23 months in prison and five years of probation, Gaulden’s sentence was adjusted to include time served up until May 2024, allowing him to avoid further incarceration.
Gaulden, 24, pleaded guilty in September 2023 to possessing multiple firearms, including a Masterpiece Arms MPA30T 9mm pistol and a Glock 21.45, while filming a rap video in Baton Rouge. He also admitted to having a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun at his Utah residence in April 2024. As part of the plea agreement, Gaulden agreed to forfeit these weapons and pay a $200,000 fine.
In addition to the firearm charges, Gaulden faced legal troubles in Utah related to a prescription drug fraud scheme. He pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts of unlawful pharmacist conduct, two counts of third-degree felony forgery, and two counts of third-degree criminal identity fraud. A plea deal reduced his penalties, sparing him jail time and lowering his fines to $25,000. The rapper’s cooperation with authorities reportedly played a role in the lenient outcome.
Kyrie Garcia, Gaulden’s godmother, publicly defended the rapper, emphasizing his humanity and good heart. “I just want people to see Kentrell as a human… he has a good heart,” Garcia said. Despite his legal challenges, fans remain supportive, eagerly anticipating his return to music. In 2023 alone, Gaulden released four projects, including “I Rest My Case” and “Decided 2,” with tracks like “Deep Down” and “Now Who” gaining significant streaming success.
Gaulden’s case highlights the complexities of navigating legal issues as a high-profile artist. His probation and financial penalties underscore the ongoing legal responsibilities he faces as he works to rebuild his career and personal life.
