Netflix Adds Top Sci-Fi Films ‘Furiosa’ and ‘Dune Part 2’ to Streaming Lineup
Netflix has bolstered its sci-fi offerings this month with the addition of two critically acclaimed films: ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’ and ‘Dune: Part Two.’ Both movies, which premiered in 2024, are now available for streaming and have quickly climbed into the platform’s top 10 most-watched list.
‘Furiosa,’ the prequel to George Miller‘s 2015 hit ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a younger version of Charlize Theron‘s iconic character. The film explores Furiosa’s origins as she navigates a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Despite its strong reviews, with a 90% critic score and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film underperformed at the box office, grossing $173 million globally.
Meanwhile, ‘Dune: Part Two,’ directed by Denis Villeneuve, has been a commercial and critical success. The sequel, starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, earned $714 million worldwide, surpassing its predecessor’s $407 million. It holds a 92% critic score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Villeneuve has already confirmed plans for a third installment, adapting the second half of Frank Herbert’s novel.
Netflix’s acquisition of these films highlights its commitment to offering high-profile sci-fi content. ‘Furiosa’ and ‘Dune: Part Two’ join other Christopher Nolan classics like ‘Interstellar‘ and ‘Inception,’ which are also available on the platform.
Chris Hemsworth, who stars in ‘Furiosa,’ is having a strong presence on Netflix, with his 2015 film ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ currently topping the platform’s charts. Hemsworth is also known for his role in Netflix’s ‘Extraction‘ series, with a third installment in development.
Fans of the ‘Mad Max’ and ‘Dune’ franchises can now stream both films on Netflix, alongside their predecessors, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and ‘Dune: Part One.’
