Netflix Reboots Iconic ‘Little House on the Prairie’ Series With New Cast

LOS ANGELES, CA — Netflix announced on May 2, 2025, that 10-year-old actress Alice Halsey will star as Laura Ingalls in its reboot of the beloved series ‘Little House on the Prairie.’ The show, which originally aired from 1974 to 1983, chronicled the life of the Ingalls family and their impact on American frontier life.
Halsey’s casting comes after high anticipation surrounding the reboot, which aims to offer a fresh perspective on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic novels. Executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine expressed her excitement, stating, “These stories inspired me to become a writer… and I am honored to adapt them for a new audience.”
In addition to Halsey, actors Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald will portray Laura’s parents, Charles and Caroline Ingalls, respectively, while Skywalker Hughes will play her older sister, Mary. The reboot aims to depict the Ingalls family’s journey from Wisconsin to Kansas, exploring themes of family, community, and survival.
The original series, set in a small frontier settlement, garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, contributing significantly to its lasting legacy. Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls in the original series, has voiced her thoughts on the reboot’s potential, suggesting it should stay true to Wilder’s writings rather than stray into new narratives.
As part of the adaptation’s focus on authenticity, the first season is expected to include members of the Osage Nation, addressing past criticisms regarding the portrayal of Native American communities in the original series.
Filming for the new adaptation is slated to begin this June in Winnipeg, Canada. With a creative team combining veteran producers and fresh talent, the reboot aims to capture both the essence of the original show and the spirit of the stories that inspired it.
As of now, there is no set release date for the series, and the excitement builds as both old fans and new viewers await its debut.
