MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The College Football Playoff (CFP) committee has announced the schedule for the 2025-2026 season, marking the second year of its 12-team format. The playoffs will run from December 19, 2025 to January 19, 2026, featuring key dates for fans to note.

The first round of games is set for December 19-20, followed by the quarterfinals on December 31 and January 1. Semifinals will take place on January 8 and 9, leading up to the CFP National Championship Game scheduled for Monday, January 19, 2026, in Miami Gardens, Florida.

In addition to the upcoming season details, the CFP committee has shared the timeline of past national championship games. Notably, in the previous season, the Michigan Wolverines secured their first national title since 1997 by defeating Washington 34-13. Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy played a pivotal role in the victory, and Blake Corum was named Offensive MVP.

The official rankings for the playoffs will begin on November 4, 2025, with the first set of rankings being critical as they determine the final seeding for the 12-team bracket. The final set of rankings will be released on December 7, prior to the playoffs.

This format change is part of the CFP’s commitment to expand opportunities for teams and players, allowing a broader range of participants to compete for the championship. Fans and teams alike anticipate an exciting playoff landscape starting this December.
