A new vibrant disco micro club called Zhuzh is set to light up the nightlife scene on Nob Hill, taking over the former Soda Popinski’s spot at 1548 California Street. This exciting addition promises glittery dance floors, dazzling disco balls, and a lineup of seasonal cocktails on tap, creating a unique clubbing experience for patrons.

Macondray, a renowned bar located nearby in Russian Hill, is closely associated with the Zhuzh team. The owners, Aaron Paul and Jake Roberts, both bring a wealth of experience to the venture. Paul, previously involved with Alta Restaurant Group, is known for crafting inventive cocktail menus, while Roberts has a background managing establishments like Soda Popinski’s. They are joined by Eric Passetti, a key player in various notable bars in San Francisco.

Paul shares that the dream for Zhuzh was inspired by the dynamic club scene in Europe. The club aims to bring back the essence of smaller, music-centric bars where patrons can unwind and dance freely, away from the big-name DJ trend. The name ‘Zhuzh’ itself encapsulates a sense of style and flair, encouraging patrons to embrace the spirit of fun and fashion.

At Zhuzh, the drink menu is streamlined, featuring six creatively crafted cocktails all served on tap for quick service. Priced at a flat rate of $15 each, the cocktails are a mix of colorful and seasonal flavors, with options like the Magic Wand, Genmaicha Matchatini, and Paradise Garage. The bar also offers a selection of California wines and local beers to cater to different preferences.

While Zhuzh focuses primarily on drinks and dancing, it will offer a few housemade pickles for snacking, sourced from the kitchen at Macondray. The menu, displayed on acrylic panels at the bar, will be updated frequently to introduce new concoctions, such as the Rhubarb Bunny, featuring unique ingredients like rhubarb for a refreshing twist.

The club’s interior, designed by Marissa Jade Marsh, exudes a playful and vibrant ambiance. From holographic glitter-covered floors to rotating disco balls and neon floral outlines, every detail is carefully curated to create an immersive experience. The DJ booth and dance floor, equipped with a high-quality sound system from RCF, promise lively music sessions for patrons to let loose and have a great time.

Zhuzh is all set to open its doors on Friday, March 15, welcoming guests from Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., and on weekends from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. With its unique concept and energetic vibe, Zhuzh is poised to become a hotspot for disco enthusiasts and party-goers in the heart of Nob Hill.
