NEW YORK, NY — Viewers eagerly await the return of new episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as the show takes a scheduled break during the week of March 27, 2025.

The show’s 26th season continues to build tension and excitement, with Captain Olivia Benson and her team delivering justice in gripping storylines. New episodes are set to resume on April 3, airing Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.

Mariska Hargitay, who portrays Benson, reflects on her character’s evolution over the years. “It’s so beautiful to have the privilege to actually watch the evolution,” Hargitay said, sharing her thoughts with NBC anchors. “As I see it and look back, Olivia Benson is sort of a perfect feminist story because we actually see this woman grow into her power.”

However, fans hoping for a new episode this week will be disappointed. NBC has opted not to air new installments in the Law & Order franchise, instead choosing to showcase encore performances of episodes from Suits L.A. during this slot, after the spinoff struggled in its usual timeslot.

While viewers wait, they can catch up on any missed episodes from this season, as past seasons are available for streaming on Peacock and Hulu. All episodes of Law & Order: SVU Season 26, as well as previous seasons, can be found on these platforms.

Law & Order’s recent episodes have tackled intense subjects, including the controversial Luigi Magione case and complex narratives revolving around trauma and recovery. The upcoming episodes promise to delve deeper into character backstories, particularly focusing on Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola and Detective Amanda Rollins, while also addressing a significant plot involving Carisi‘s trauma.

“Something we’re sort of emphasizing this year is trying to learn more about some of our characters,” showrunner Rick Eid explained. “We’re still delivering compelling, topical cases every week, but we want to dig a little deeper into who our people are and how their personal lives intersect with their professional lives.”

As anticipation builds for the return on April 3, viewers can look forward to the series’ continued exploration of emotional and topical issues that have made it a staple of television for over two decades.
