NEW YORK CITY — Fans of the popular ‘Game of Thrones‘ franchise will need to wait a bit longer for the upcoming spinoff series, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ which has been pushed to 2026, HBO announced Wednesday during its upfront presentation.

The new release date was revealed alongside a first look at the series’ trailer, which concluded with a title card stating ‘2026.’ HBO content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys mentioned the show is scheduled for a winter premiere, indicating an early 2026 launch.

This delay means viewers won’t see any new ‘Game of Thrones’ content this year. Currently, the third season of ‘House of the Dragon‘ is in production, but no premiere date has been announced. This season will be the second to last in the planned four-season run.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is based on George R.R. Martin’s novella, ‘The Hedge Knight.’ The story takes place roughly 100 years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ focusing on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and his squire, Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell.

The series will explore their encounters at a tournament featuring various members of the Targaryen dynasty, including Prince Aerion, Prince Baelor, and Prince Maekar, as well as other characters.

Martin and Ira Parker are among the executive producers. The first season consists of six episodes, with three directed by Sarah Adina Smith and three by Owen Harris. Despite the wait, anticipation continues to build for the series, with many fans eager to see how the beloved world of Westeros will expand.

In his comments, Martin expressed enthusiasm for the project, acknowledging that the characters are coming to life vividly on screen. ‘Watching them makes me want to start writing the next novella tomorrow,’ he said.
