New Lupin IIIrd Prequel Set to Stream on June 20

Tokyo, Japan – A prequel to the upcoming film, Lupin the IIIrd: The Movie – Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, titled Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, is scheduled to premiere on streaming platforms on June 20, 2025, at 9 PM JST. The film features Inspector Zenigata and is described as a “hard action” title that involves a terrorist bombing and a confrontation with a “fake Lupin.”
The streaming premiere will be followed by a broadcast debut on WOWOW on June 22, 2025. This prequel will be shown after a marathon that includes other titles from the franchise such as Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen’s Gravestone and Lupin the IIIrd: Goemon’s Blood Spray.
Fans can look forward to the theatrical release of Lupin the IIIrd: The Movie – Fujimi no Ketsuzoku on June 27, 2025. This installment is being marketed as the first 2D Lupin III anime film in three decades and continues the legacy of the popular franchise.
The creative team behind the prequel includes screenwriter Yuya Takahashi, known for contributing to previous Lupin titles, and music composer James Shimoji. The animation is being produced by Telecom Animation Film.
The Lupin III franchise made its debut in 1967 with a manga created by the late Monkey Punch. The first animated series adaptation began airing in 1971 and has since seen a variety of adaptations, including films and crossovers.
According to the production notes, Kanichi Kurita returns as Lupin III, joined by Akio Otsuka as Daisuke Jigen, Daisuke Namikawa as Goemon Ishikawa, Miyuki Sawashiro as Fujiko Mine, and Koichi Yamadera as Zenigata.
