LOS ANGELES, Calif. — CBS has announced exciting news for fans of “The Neighborhood.” A star-studded cast, including Hunter King, Kara Royster, Angelique Cabral, and Justin Long, is set to guest star in the Season 7 finale, which will double as a backdoor pilot for a new spinoff.
The finale is scheduled to air as the series approaches the 2025-26 television season. The upcoming show will follow characters Malcolm (Sheaun McKinney) and Marty (Marcel Spears) as they venture into a new neighborhood, leaving the comfort of their parents’ home behind.
The premise, described as a reversal of the original show, follows the two brothers as they navigate their new lives in Venice Beach, a place that is familiar yet drastically different from what they know.
Justin Long’s character, Bruce, is portrayed as a tech millionaire marked by his blend of confidence and social awkwardness. Despite his impulsiveness and lack of a social filter, Bruce is characterized by an underlying sweetness that ultimately wins over both Malcolm and Marty.
Kara Royster will portray Matisse, Malcolm’s new neighbor who embodies the qualities of a spoiled influencer. However, her transformation reveals depth as she navigates her own personal evolution after her father’s disinterest in catering to her every desire prompts her to embrace her own identity.
Angelique Cabral takes on the role of Lisa, an enthusiastic book agent with a keen eye for talent. Her passion for Malcolm’s writing and her unpredictable nature make her a dynamic addition to the cast.
Long, known for his recent work in the Disney+/Hulu series “Goosebumps,” is joined by Royster, who gained recognition through her roles in “Pretty Little Liars” and “Dynasty.” Cabral, having previously starred in “Life in Pieces,” completes the eclectic ensemble.
Despite the excitement surrounding the spinoff, CBS has yet to confirm whether “The Neighborhood” will return for an eighth season, with a decision expected in the spring.
The spinoff is developed by CBS Studios and produced by Cedric the Entertainer’s A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, and Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV. The original series showrunners Bill Martin and Mike Schiff are also on board as executive producers.
