Domhnall Gleeson The Paper Comedy Series

New York, NY – NBCUniversal revealed this morning that the new comedy series, ‘The Paper,’ produced by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, will premiere in September. The announcement came during the network’s Upfront presentation, where a first-look photo showed Domhnall Gleeson engaging with his coworkers in a mockumentary-style setting.

‘The Paper’ will take place in Toledo, Ohio, and follows the documentary crew from ‘The Office’ as they search for a new subject, ultimately discovering the struggling newspaper, The Truth Teller. Gleeson portrays the dedicated publisher aiming to revive this historic publication.

During the presentation at Radio City Music Hall, Gleeson, along with co-stars Oscar Nuñez and Sabrina Impacciatore, discussed the show’s concept. Nuñez, who reprises his role as Oscar Martinez, expressed his excitement about Oscar moving to a cosmopolitan environment. ‘Greg heard me and moved Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times the population of Scranton,’ he said. ‘So it’s nice to be heard.’

Daniels shared details about the show’s premise, stating, ‘It’s about this struggling Midwestern newspaper that’s much reduced from its glory days. Domhnall Gleeson’s character is trying to restore this paper without the budget for hiring reporters, using staff on a volunteer basis instead.’ He added that the storylines reflect the challenges local newspapers face in the age of the internet.

The cast includes newcomers like Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. Guest stars will feature Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, and Tracy Letts.

‘The Paper’ is a continuation of the beloved ‘Office’ universe and will join Peacock’s lineup of new scripted originals. Creators Daniels and Koman are also executive producers, along with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Universal Television produces the series, promising a blend of humor and heart as the crew navigates the complexities of reviving a local newspaper.

As anticipation builds, fans of ‘The Office’ can look forward to seeing this new chapter in the franchise, set to debut later this year.
