New Streaming Releases: Sports Comedy, Documentaries, and Oscars Preview

LOS ANGELES, CA — From sports comedies to heartfelt documentaries, streaming services are offering a diverse lineup of new titles for the week of February 24 to March 2, 2025.
This week features Kate Hudson in the sports comedy Running Point, debuting on Netflix, alongside the third installment of the Venom trilogy, Venom: The Last Dance. For those interested in real-life stories, Hulu and Peacock are presenting documentaries that address social issues in poignant ways.
Mindy Kaling co-created Running Point, which stars Hudson as Isla Gordon, an executive unexpectedly thrust into running the Los Angeles Waves, her family’s professional basketball team. “Isla is in a male-dominated environment where she must prove herself,” Kaling said. “It’s a story of empowerment and resilience.” The series debuts on February 27, with all episodes available to stream.
Netflix will also release Venom: The Last Dance on February 25. The film continues the saga of journalist Eddie Brock, played by Tom Hardy, as he faces an existential crisis while pursued by a new enemy, the Xenophage. “This film is not just about battles,” Hardy noted. “It explores identity and the morality of power.”
On the documentary front, Hulu’s Devil In The Family: The Fall of Ruby Franke dives into the life of the infamous vlogger Ruby Franke, who was arrested for child abuse. Featuring interviews with her ex-husband and children, the three-part series launches on February 27 and offers an unsettling portrait of parental ambition overshadowing child welfare.
Meanwhile, Peacock will release Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy, which chronicles the life of the late Friends star, highlighting his rise, struggles with addiction, and tragic demise. This deeply personal account features interviews with friends and cast members, airing February 25.
Additionally, fans of anime won’t want to miss the finale of Dragon Ball Daima, airing on February 28. The acclaimed series wraps up with suspenseful twists and character developments that fans have eagerly anticipated.
Finally, the 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 2, with Conan O’Brien hosting the ceremony live. The event promises to be a thrilling night as films vie for prestigious awards, specifically highlighting the controversial Emilia Pérez, which leads the nominations with 13.
This week’s releases provide something for everyone, ensuring that whether viewers seek laughs, thoughtful documentaries, or insights into Hollywood, they can find entertainment across platforms.
