New York Times Strands Puzzle Offers Daily Word Challenge
NEW YORK, NY — The New York Times has introduced a new daily word puzzle called Strands, available in the NYT Games app. The game challenges players to find a group of words that share a common theme within a grid of letters.
Every day, participants are presented with a six by eight letter grid, aiming to discover words associated with a hinted theme. When players find a theme word, it highlights in blue. Additionally, they must find a special term known as a ‘spangram.’ This word connects at least two sides of the grid and may be a proper name.
“The Strands puzzle adds a fresh level of excitement to word games,” says Kris Holt, a contributor to Forbes. “Each day brings a unique challenge that requires players to think creatively.”
To succeed, players must use every letter at least once while forming theme words and the spangram. Words can connect vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, allowing for flexible patterns.
Each day, users earn access to hints if they identify three valid words of at least four letters that do not fit the theme. However, those hints should be used cautiously as the game’s difficulty can vary, often surprising players with tougher challenges.
Today’s Strands theme is ‘Low-key elusive’, and players must discover six theme words, including the spangram. The spangram for today is “BARELY THERE,” which players can locate on the grid.
The NYT Strands puzzle has quickly become popular, following the success of other word games like Wordle and Connections. As players continue to engage with this new challenge, the NYT Games maintains its status as a leader in interactive wordplay.
