Newcastle United Supporters Club In Perth Grows In Popularity

NUFC Perth, a Newcastle United Supporters Club based in Western Australia, is steadily growing in popularity. The club was formed in 2015 by Gavin Flannery, Shane Knapp, and Andrew McWilliams, with a meet up arranged in a bar in Jurien Bay. However, due to the team’s relegation, the group went stagnant for a few years until Dean Gibbs and Anthony Margaretic took over in 2021.

The club represents all of Western Australia, but most members are based in Perth and the surrounding suburbs. With a current count of around 500 members, NUFC Perth has become a thriving community for Newcastle United fans in the area.

NUFC Perth interacts mainly through their Facebook group, but they also have a Twitter page to reach those without a Facebook account. To get in touch with the club, interested individuals can reach out via their Facebook group or email them at [email protected].

The club boasts a mix of Newcastle-born Geordies, Perth-born Geordies, and fans from around the world. Many Aussie members have family ties to Newcastle, while others were drawn to the club during the entertaining football displayed by the team during the Keegan and Robson eras.

NUFC Perth often gathers at Varsity, a sports bar in Northbridge, Perth, for their meetups. The bar has a capacity of 160 people and has become a popular spot for fans to gather and watch matches together. While they prefer the 12:30pm UK kickoff times, which conveniently translate to 7:30/8:30pm in Perth, the 5:30pm UK kickoff times pose a challenge as they often start in the middle of the night.

The supporters club has several notable characters, including Gavin Flannery, Shane Knapp, Andrew McWilliams, Dean Gibbs, Anthony Margaretic, Joe Bamborough, Gee Bennet, and John Shenton. While there haven’t been any group visits to Newcastle or England for matches, members often share about their individual trips to see the team play.

NUFC Perth continues to thrive as a community for Newcastle United fans in Perth, providing a space for fans to come together and support their team from afar. With their dedicated members and strong presence, the club looks forward to growing further and creating more memorable moments for its members.
