2025 NFL Draft Approaches, Former Hoosiers Eye Opportunities

Indianapolis, IN — The 2025 NFL Draft kicks off tomorrow at 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time with teams making their first-round selections. Although no Indiana players are expected to be picked on the first day, several former Hoosiers are anticipated to start their NFL careers this weekend.
Among the top draft prospects are defensive tackle CJ West and quarterback Kurtis Rourke, both of whom enjoyed successful seasons with Indiana. West transferred from Kent State and garnered Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors in 2024. He made an impact on the Hoosiers’ run defense, recording 42 tackles and two sacks while showcasing his disruptive play style.
“West has the potential to be a solid backup or a rotational piece in a one-gap scheme,” said an NFL scout. He is projected to be selected in the sixth round, primarily valued for his quickness and ability to diagnose plays.
Meanwhile, Rourke, a Canadian native, moved to Indiana from Ohio, where he finished his college career with impressive stats. During his time at Indiana, he threw for 3,042 yards and 29 touchdowns, leading the Hoosiers to a College Football Playoff berth. Rourke has drawn attention for his field awareness and toughness despite an ACL injury he faced prior to the draft.
“Rourke is a smart quarterback who can manage a game and take advantage of opportunities,” said another scout. His draft projection sits around the seventh round or as a priority free agent, appealing for teams looking for reliable depth.
Other former Hoosiers, including offensive lineman Trey Wedig and linebacker Jailin Walker, are also aiming to hear their names called over the weekend. Both players showed versatility and solid performance throughout their seasons at Indiana.
As the draft unfolds, the attention will also be on teams like the New York Jets, who hold the seventh pick but may consider trading down for additional assets. The Jets are eyeing tight end prospects, notably Michigan‘s Colston Loveland, which could bolster their roster as they look to fill key positions.
Fans will be watching closely as opportunities arise, hoping for former Indiana players to make their mark in the NFL.
