Actor Nicholas Braun, known for his role as Cousin Greg on the popular television series “Succession,” recently addressed fans’ reactions to the series finale. Speaking on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Braun shared his thoughts on the show’s conclusion, particularly regarding his character’s development.

“I thought the episode was amazing,” Braun remarked during the interview. He acknowledged that fans have expressed mixed feelings about Greg’s journey in the series. “Fans are kind of generally, like, a little bit upset at how it ended with Greg,” Braun noted. “They’ll come up to me — and he did great — but some people are like, you know, ‘He should have gotten it all.’”

Discussing the future potential for Greg’s character, Braun mentioned, “He kind of did. Like, he’s that close. If you do one more season, he takes over Tom. He’ll jump. So, you know, give us one more and it’s Greg time.” The actor’s comments suggest that, despite not reaching the top, Greg is positioned for future success.

In the series finale, Tom Wambsgans, played by Matthew Macfadyen, emerges as the CEO of Waystar Royco after Lukas Matsson, portrayed by Alexander Skarsgard, chooses him over Kendall, played by Jeremy Strong. This decision follows a dramatic series of events where Greg sides with the siblings against Tom, yet is eventually forgiven and retained as part of Tom’s team.

Braun explained the dynamic between Tom and Greg, saying, “One way to think about it is that the deal, the sort of contract that Tom offers Greg at the end of season three about joining him on the dark side and ‘sell your soul,’ basically, and, ‘I’ll take care of you,’ that’s the promise.” Braun suggests that Tom’s forgiveness is part of this promise and adds depth to their relationship.

The decision to have Tom, an outsider, succeed in the end, alongside Greg, another outsider, resonated with Braun. “There’s something about giving it to Tom, giving it to an outsider,” he observed. This narrative choice has sparked discussions among fans about the show’s unique approach to concluding its storyline.
