Burbank, CA — Nickelodeon has officially greenlit ‘Avatar: Seven Havens,’ an animated series set in the beloved Avatar universe. The announcement comes just a day before the 20th anniversary of the iconic show ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ which first aired on February 21, 2005.

‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ will comprise 26 half-hour episodes, divided into two seasons—referred to as Books One and Two in ‘Avatar’ terminology. This new series is currently in production under the Avatar Studios banner, led by original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.

The series is described in the official logline as taking place in a world ravaged by a cataclysm. In this setting, a young Earthbender discovers she is the new Avatar following Korra. However, the title comes with peril; in this dangerous era, being the Avatar is viewed as a threat rather than a blessing. She and her long-lost twin must navigate dangers from both human and spirit foes while seeking to unravel their obscure origins to save the Seven Havens before the last remnants of civilization perish.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko stated. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

Ethan Spaulding serves as executive producer, with Sehaj Sethi as co-executive producer for the series.

“For two decades, the richly crafted world of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

This marks the third animated series in the franchise, following ‘The Last Airbender’ and ‘The Legend of Korra,’ which ran for four seasons from 2012 to 2014. Additionally, a film focusing on Aang and his friends, now adults, is set for theatrical release on January 30, 2026. The film will feature a voice cast including Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza, and Eric Nam.

Nickelodeon’s recent endeavors in the Avatar universe also include various new content initiatives—including digital shorts, in-person experiences, consumer products, and games—that celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘The Last Airbender.’ Furthermore, a live-action adaptation of ‘The Last Airbender’ premiered on Netflix in 2024.
