The highly anticipated Nigerian film, The Uprising: Wives on Strike, is scheduled to premiere in Nigerian cinemas on October 18, 2024. The announcement comes amid growing excitement from fans of the franchise and the cast.
According to an official statement posted on Instagram by Nile Entertainment, the film will also be released in select international markets. “It’s official. The Wives on Strike series initially gained fame with its first release in 2016, closely followed by a successful sequel, Wives on Strike: The Revolution, in 2018. The narrative centers on a group of women who embark on denying their husbands sex to pressure them into advocating for a young girl forced into marriage. The story provides humorous relief while addressing pressing issues like gender-based violence.
The latest film in the series, The Uprising: Wives on Strike, explores complex themes of love, friendship, loss, betrayal, and resilience. It tells the harrowing tale of a widow whose only child has been kidnapped, pushing her to confront profound despair in her search for justice.
The production of the film is spearheaded by Dioni Vision Films, with Nile Entertainment handling distribution. This marks Nile Entertainment’s first title release under its new distribution arm. The film promises to deliver a star-studded cast including Omoni Oboli, Hilda Dokubo, Uche Jombo, Chioma Akpotha, Ufuoma Mc Dermott, and many others.
Omoni Oboli and Tomi Adeoye serve as producers of this project, continuing their longstanding collaboration that has proven successful in previous franchise installments.
