Nintendo Opens New Store in San Francisco’s Union Square

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Nintendo opened its long-awaited store on Thursday in Union Square, marking only the second official store in the United States, following the one in New York City. The new location spans over 9,000 square feet across two levels and is designed to provide fans an immersive experience with their favorite video games.
“It’s full to the brim with all of the franchises that are in all your favorite video games,” said PJ Sadler, a senior manager with Nintendo of America. He explained that customers can explore themed sections dedicated to popular games like “Super Mario,” “Animal Crossing,” and “The Legend of Zelda,” offering exclusive merchandise that cannot be found elsewhere.
The store also features a unique gaming wall, allowing visitors to engage in multiplayer games like Mario Kart on a large screen. Sadler emphasized, “You can immerse yourself in our games in new meaningful ways. Our goal here… is to ensure that people leave with a smile on their face.”
Doug Bowser, the president of Nintendo of America, expressed excitement about the location. “Being here in historic Union Square puts us literally in the heart of San Francisco,” he said. Local officials, including Mayor London Breed, believe the store will help revitalize the area, attracting both locals and tourists. Mayor Breed stated, “This is great news for Union Square and fans from everywhere.”
Long lines formed outside the store as fans awaited the chance to explore its offerings. “This is a huge deal,” said Michelle Javier, noting the importance of having the second U.S. store. The location aims to create a rich shopping experience, fostering community among gamers and fans alike.
Looking ahead, Nintendo plans to attract even more visitors with the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This new store is expected to be a hub for fans to gather and celebrate, marking an exciting expansion of the brand on the West Coast.
