Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Redmond, Washington – Nintendo has confirmed that its highly anticipated title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, will feature a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition that includes enhanced control options and improved graphics settings. The announcement came during the latest Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, 2025.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition allows players to utilize the Joy-Con controller’s mouse functionality, enhancing gameplay navigation. Additionally, two distinct graphics modes will be available: a quality mode that delivers 4K resolution at 60 frames per second while docked, and 1080p at 60 fps in handheld mode, along with HDR support. The performance mode will offer 1080p at 120 fps when docked, and 720p at 120 fps in handheld mode.
Anthony B. Johnson, a Nintendo spokesperson, expressed enthusiasm for the new features: “We believe that the new mouse functionality will provide a unique gameplay experience, allowing for greater precision in navigation and combat.” The development of Metroid Prime 4 has been a drawn-out journey; the game was first unveiled alongside the Nintendo Switch’s launch in 2017. Following development setbacks, Nintendo enlisted the help of Retro Studios in 2019 to steer the project.
During the Nintendo Direct, a trailer showcased the game’s setting on a lush jungle planet named Viewros, where players will control protagonist Samus Aran as she deploys an array of psychic powers to battle enemies and undertake puzzles. The gameplay footage revealed her sleek new crimson armor and exciting new abilities.
Nintendo also highlighted that fans can look forward to other upcoming titles, including Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, which are slated for release in 2026. These titles were specifically mentioned as a nod to long-term Nintendo fans who have been eagerly awaiting new installments in beloved franchises.
Today’s Direct further revealed several other games that will receive Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Each of these titles will be enhanced with features like improved framerates, HDR support, and more.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond remains a crucial title for Nintendo as it transitions to its next-generation console. The game’s upgraded features aim to provide a more immersive experience while targeting both new players and longtime fans alike. As the gaming community anticipates the release, additional information, including a final launch date, is expected soon.
