Northern Michigan University Director Joins State Council On Social Determinants Of Health

Northern Michigan University’s Center for Rural Health Director, Elise Bur, has been chosen to serve on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) Hub Advisory Council. The council’s objective is to guide the implementation of SDOH Hub pilot projects across various communities in the state, fostering collaboration among multiple sectors to address social determinants of health and advance health equity.

Bur, an esteemed member of the Center for Rural Health at NMU, expressed her commitment to ensuring rural voices are represented and heard within the council. She aims to contribute to the development of a model that supports Community Health Workers in the region, recognizing their importance in improving public health outcomes.

The SDOH Hub Advisory Council plays a pivotal role in shaping Michigan’s approach to addressing the socio-economic factors influencing health outcomes. It will also develop recommendations for future initiatives, leveraging the expertise and perspectives of council members like Bur.
