LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wings Hauser, a prolific character actor recognized for his memorable roles in film and television, died on March 15 at the age of 78. His death, attributed to natural causes, was confirmed by his wife, Cali Lili Hauser.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Cali Lili Hauser wrote, “Movie icon Wings Hauser took flight in the arms of his film and music partner, Cali Lili Hauser, at their studio this weekend. Wings Hauser’s one-of-a-kind, legendary career spanned 58 years in movies, TV, and music, working alongside many of the greatest artists in the industry and earning their respect.”

Born Gerald Dwight Hauser on December 12, 1947, in Hollywood, California, Hauser began his acting career with an uncredited role in the 1967 war drama “First to Fight.” He appeared in numerous iconic television shows such as “Magnum, P.I.,” “The Fall Guy,” “Murder, She Wrote,” and had a significant role as Greg Foster on the soap opera “The Young and the Restless.” Hauser was known for his recurring appearances, first joining the cast in 1977 and returning for several episodes in 2010.

As a film actor, Hauser gained fame for his role as Ramrod in the 1982 cult classic “Vice Squad,” where he showcased his versatility and intensity. He also had memorable performances in notable films like “The Insider” (1999) alongside Al Pacino and Russell Crowe and earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his role in “Tough Guys Don’t Dance” (1987).

Hauser’s daughter, Bright, expressed her family’s love, stating, “He always brought a fearless authenticity to his work. Whether he was portraying the tough anti-hero in gritty crime dramas or a villain, his performances were filled with energy and charisma that made him a truly unique talent.”

In addition to his acting, Hauser was known for his musical pursuits. In his wife’s statement, she mentioned their collaborations on upcoming albums and projects, emphasizing their deep bond and partnership. “Of course it’s much harder now, but I’m going to fulfill his wishes that I continue the work and fulfill all the projects we set up to do in the next few years,” Cali said.

Hauser is survived by his wife, Cali Lili Hauser, and their combined families, including his son, Cole Hauser, known for his role in the hit series “Yellowstone.” He also leaves behind a daughter, Bright, and several grandchildren, cherished by his family.

Hauser’s life will be celebrated for his artistic contributions and the impact he had on all those who knew him personally and professionally.
