Nottingham Forest Faces Malmo Without Key Midfielder Ahead of Europa League Clash
NOTTINGHAM, England – Morgan Gibbs-White will miss Nottingham Forest‘s Europa League match against Malmo on Thursday due to a minor injury. Forest manager Sean Dyche confirmed the news during a press conference earlier this week.
Gibbs-White, an influential midfielder, recently scored the third goal in Forest’s 3-0 Premier League victory against Liverpool, adding to his tally of four goals in six appearances under Dyche. “We’re just settling an issue down with him. We’re hopeful it is nothing too serious but he will miss this one,” Dyche said.
Forest aims to build on their recent success as they return to European competition at the City Ground. However, they will be without Gibbs-White as well as several other key players, including Chris Wood, Dilane Bakwa, and Ola Aina, who are all sidelined with injuries. Dyche expressed optimism about the team’s depth, saying, “It will be helpful if we can get those guys fit sooner rather than later.”
Despite the injury challenges, Dyche believes it presents an opportunity for other players to step up. “You want players who are going to step in. They are all desperate to play so it is a great opportunity for players who haven’t necessarily been starting,” he added.
James McAtee is the frontrunner to fill Gibbs-White’s position against Malmo, although Omari Hutchinson is also out of the squad. Meanwhile, Forest currently sits 23rd in the Europa League standings, with Malmo in last place, having failed to win any of their first four matches.
The fixture holds historical significance for Nottingham Forest as it recalls their triumph in the European Cup final in 1979 against the same Swedish side. With newfound confidence stemming from their recent performances in the league, Forest hopes to secure a victory to ignite their European campaign.
