Oklahoma Softball Team Vs Oregon

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Oklahoma Sooners, seeded No. 2, face a critical elimination match against No. 16 Oregon in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. This game will take place at Devon Park, following Oklahoma’s loss to the No. 6 Texas Longhorns, marking a historic defeat for the reigning champions.

The Sooners (51-8) need to beat the Ducks and then secure two more victories on June 2 to qualify for the championship series. In contrast, Oregon (54-9) aims to prolong its tournament run after narrowly defeating UCLA in an earlier game.

Oklahoma’s journey has become challenging after their loss to Texas, making this contest particularly crucial. Last year, the Sooners also faced an elimination game during the semifinals but managed to secure their place in the finals. Oregon, on the other hand, is fresh off a hard-fought, 10-inning win that was capped with a walk-off home run.

The match between these two teams also carries personal stakes, as Oregon’s coach Melyssa Lombardi previously worked under Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso. Lombardi has been the head coach at Oregon since 2018, after spending 21 years on Gasso’s staff.

This elimination matchup is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN2, featuring Kevin Brown as the play-by-play announcer, Amanda Scarborough as the color commentator, and Taylor McGregor as the sideline reporter. For streaming, viewers can use the ESPN app with a cable login or subscribe to ESPN+.

The Women's College World Series runs through June 6, with the finals set for June 4 through June 6, dependent on potential extra games.
