Olamide At 35: Celebrating The Legacy Of The Afrobeats Superstar

March 15, 2024, marks the 35th birthday of Nigerian Afrobeats star Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide. With a decade-long career in the music industry, Olamide has solidified his position as one of the most influential artists on the African music scene.

Olamide’s discography is a treasure trove of hits, with 10 studio albums that have captivated audiences worldwide. His music label, YBNL, has been a breeding ground for talents like Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Fireboy DML, and Asake, who have all gone on to make their mark in the industry.

One of Olamide’s significant collaborations was with Grammy-winning artist Wizkid on the track ‘Omo Toh Shan’ from his debut album ‘Rapsodi.’ The infectious nature of the song and their chemistry set the foundation for Olamide’s rise to stardom.

In 2012, Olamide dropped the chart-topping hit ‘First of All’ produced by Pheelz, which became a national anthem. The success of this song catapulted Olamide to new heights in the music industry.

His track ‘Bobo’ from the ‘Eyan Mayweather’ album in 2015 became a cultural phenomenon with its viral dance step. This song showcased Olamide’s ability to create infectious tunes that resonate with audiences.

Fast forward to 2021, and Olamide released ‘Rock,’ a love song that displayed his versatility as an artist. The track was part of his 9th studio album ‘UY Scuti’ and showcased a more intimate and melodic side of the rapper.

Notably, Olamide was featured in Asake’s hit song ‘Amapiano’ in 2023, which garnered a Grammy nomination. This made Olamide the first Nigerian hip-hop act to receive such a prestigious recognition from the music industry.
