SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium — Amelia Dimoldenberg is taking on a new challenge: learning to drive. Her latest endeavor features Formula One driver Ollie Bearman as a guest instructor in her YouTube series, “Passenger Princess.” This episode marks Phase 2 of Dimoldenberg’s mission to gain her driving license.

During a rainy filming session at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Bearman questioned Dimoldenberg’s skills, playfully asking, “Are you really that bad?!” The tough conditions added an extra layer of difficulty as the duo attempted to master parallel parking in an Alfa Romeo sports car.

The series premiered on Dimoldenberg’s YouTube channel, produced by her creative studio, Dimz Inc. This four-part series invites some of the fastest F1 drivers to relinquish control and help Dimoldenberg learn the basics of driving.

Formula One’s fanbase is rapidly evolving, with 43 percent of its worldwide audience under 35 years old, and women comprising 42 percent as of 2023. “Passenger Princess” aims to connect with this new demographic while demystifying the world of F1.

“Amelia has one of the most distinctive voices in culture today,” said Ian Holmes, F1’s chief media rights officer. He emphasized that the series is an innovative way for F1 to reach new audiences.

Dimoldenberg first garnered attention from F1 fans after interviewing driver Lando Norris on her show, “Chicken Shop Date,” prompting her to explore a collaboration with other drivers. When pitching this concept to F1, she described her vision of having drivers teach her how to drive, despite not having a driver’s license.

The filming at the Belgian Grand Prix weekend proved to be an eye-opening experience for Dimoldenberg, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity. She experienced the technical teamwork behind the scenes and quickly fell in love with the sport.

Bearman and fellow drivers George Russell, Carlos Sainz, and Oscar Piastri are featured throughout the series, each offering their unique insights. Dimoldenberg revealed that learning to start a car was a significant lesson, highlighting the differences in car types between the U.S. and the U.K.

Throughout the filming, Bearman exhibited patience, making him one of the most helpful instructors. Dimoldenberg acknowledged the competitive nature of athletes, which added humor to the lessons, as they navigated challenges in a non-competitive setting.

With each episode running around eight minutes, “Passenger Princess” uses Dimoldenberg’s approachable interviewing style, allowing viewers to engage with the content without needing extensive F1 knowledge.

Fans can expect laughter and entertainment as Dimoldenberg learns the ropes of driving alongside some of F1’s top talents. The series is a fresh gateway to Formula One, aiming to attract a broader audience.
