In 1958, Obasanjo joined the Nigerian Army. He attended the Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, England, and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Camberley, England. He also attended the Staff College Camberley in Camberley, England, and the National Defence College in Abuja, Nigeria.

Career

Obasanjo joined the Nigerian Army in 1958 and rose through the ranks to become a general. He served in the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1970. After the war, he was appointed the Federal Commissioner for Works and Housing.
