2025 U.S. Open Favorites Compete at Tough Oakmont Course

PLUM, Pa. — The 2025 U.S. Open will return to Oakmont Country Club, one of golf’s most challenging venues, starting Thursday. Known for its rigorous setup, Oakmont features rough estimated at 5 inches and speeds of over 14 on the stimpmeter.
This year’s competition is especially anticipated, as players prepare for a course designed to test the world’s best golfers. With over 100 bunkers and a punishing layout, fans can expect to see some intense competition.
“The player who emerges as the champion will have truly earned the title,” said a tournament analyst. “These conditions will reward skill and strategy.”
Nine golfers are highlighted as strong contenders worth cheering for, starting with Bryson DeChambeau at 15/2 odds. If he wins again at Oakmont, he will join legends like Tiger Woods as a three-time U.S. Open champion.
Scottie Scheffler, favored at 11/4, has won three of his last four outings and can become one of the youngest golfers to achieve a career grand slam at only 28 years old.
Ludvig Åberg, listed at 25-1, has shown potential as a rising star and could secure his first major title on this challenging course.
Sepp Straka, notably performing well this season with two wins, has 40-1 odds and could be a surprise top finisher.
Jon Rahm, a previous U.S. Open winner, holds 12-1 odds. He remains motivated by recent strong performances and seeks to reclaim his spot among the top players.
Additional notable contenders include Ben Griffin (66-1), Tyrrell Hatton (50-1), Collin Morikawa (25-1), and Shane Lowry (33-1), each bringing unique strengths to the demanding Oakmont setup.
With competition starting Thursday, all eyes will be on these golfers as they vie for the prestigious title at one of golf’s most historic venues.
