Warhammer 40,000 Dark Heresy Game Announcement

LOS ANGELES, California — Owlcat Games announced their latest cRPG, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, during the Warhammer Skulls 2025 showcase. The game invites players to take on the role of an Inquisitor, tasked with rooting out heresy in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000.

Set against the backdrop of the Noctis Aeterna and the enigmatic Tyrant Star, Dark Heresy will feature a band of diverse companions, including Imperial subjects and xenos. Reports mention intricate investigations and a turn-based combat system, emphasizing choices that can drastically impact the storyline.

“You will be actually gaining clues, you will be analyzing them, making deductions,” said Owlcat producer Anatoly Shestov in a recent interview. “Because this is an Inquisition game, you won’t ever know.” He indicated that players would face severe repercussions for their decisions, as misjudgments could lead to dire outcomes.

Players will lead a warband while delving into the mysteries surrounding their universe. The game will include fully voiced dialogues and a major expansion on ideas previously introduced in Rogue Trader. Maximum playback duration for investigations could lead to significant narrative developments.

While no specific release date has been provided for Dark Heresy, it is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Owlcat also announced upcoming content for Rogue Trader, including the second major story expansion, Lex Imperialis, scheduled for release on June 24, 2025.

“Lex Imperialis will introduce the Adeptus Arbites, a faction of incorruptible enforcers,” Shestov said, referring to new companions and features aimed at enhancing gameplay and depth of story.

As more details emerge, the gaming community eagerly anticipates how Dark Heresy will blend tactical gameplay with rich storytelling, setting a new standard within the Warhammer 40,000 franchise.
