Paramount Eyes 'top Gun' Sequel With Tom Cruise

Paramount Pictures is reportedly considering a sequel to the hit action film ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ and has enlisted co-writer Ehren Kruger to work on the script. The studio is also hopeful that director Joseph Kosinski will return to helm the potential sequel, which may see Tom Cruise and his co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell reprising their roles. Talks about the script began late last year, but final approval is still pending from Cruise and other key personnel.

This news comes shortly after Cruise announced his partnership with Warner Bros. to develop franchises and original movies. Despite the deal, Cruise remains available to work with other studios such as Paramount and Universal, where he is currently involved in a high-budget film that will be shot on the International Space Station. His production company also has offices on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank.

Paramount Global, the parent company of Paramount Pictures, has also been making headlines as it appears to be up for sale. Skydance Media, the production company behind ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ is reportedly in the process of acquiring National Amusements, the holding company that controls Paramount Global.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was a monumental success for Paramount, receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and grossing nearly $1.5 billion, making it one of Cruise’s most successful films to date. Cruise also spearheads Paramount’s ‘Mission: Impossible‘ franchise and is currently working on the eighth installment of the spy series.
