Parker McCollum Releases Cinematic ‘What Kinda Man’ Music Video
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country music star Parker McCollum unveiled the cinematic music video for his hit single “What Kinda Man” on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Directed by Dustin Haney, the video takes viewers on a thrilling journey through dive bars, church pews, and high-speed chases, all while weaving in subtle nods to McCollum’s previous hits and featuring a cameo from his wife, Hallie Ray Light McCollum.
“Excited for y’all to see this one!” McCollum said in a statement. “Working with Dustin has been such an incredible creative partnership. He has such a great eye for what I’m trying to accomplish and always over delivers. This video for ‘What Kinda Man’ was a whole lot of fun to make, and I hope y’all enjoy it.”
The video brings to life the energetic single, which McCollum released in September 2024. Co-written by Natalie Hemby and Jeremy Spillman, and produced by Frank Liddell and Eric Masse, the song marks a return to McCollum’s traditional country roots. “Lately, I’ve been coming back to this sound and the roots of where I started out,” McCollum explained. “I think this new song is my way of revisiting that and creating something that feels like home to me and my fans.”
In the song, McCollum reflects on his transformation from a self-proclaimed “hell-raiser” to a man willing to change for love. “I think that’s a theme that’s true for a lot of guys,” co-writer Jeremy Spillman said. “You can listen to that song and identify with that character. We are kind of hell-raisers till we find the one who gives us a reason not to be that way.”
The video’s release coincides with the kickoff of McCollum’s headlining “What Kinda Man Tour,” which begins later this month. The tour will feature special guests on select dates, though specific names were not disclosed in the announcement. McCollum expressed gratitude to his fans, saying, “Y’all were with us rain or shine this past year, and I can say it was hands down one of my favorite tours. I truly do have the best fans out there!”
McCollum, a Texas native, has steadily risen in the country music scene, earning accolades for his heartfelt lyrics and traditional sound. With “What Kinda Man,” he continues to push his artistic boundaries while staying true to his roots. “The only thing I ever think about when I write songs is…would Rodney Crowell think this is good?” McCollum said. “Would Steve Earle think this is good? Would James McMurtry or Robert Earl Keen think this is good for country music? And I think they would think this song was good for country music.”
