Parker Players Mauritius Play Theater Performance

Barrington, Illinois – The Parker Players Theater Company is presenting ‘Mauritius,’ a play by Theresa Rebeck, known as one of the most produced female playwrights on Broadway. Premiering at the Biltmore Theatre in 2007, this intense family drama runs through May 11.

Director Kurt Naebig, with over 30 years of theater experience, expressed his admiration for the script. ‘Since the first time I read it, I loved it,’ Naebig said. ‘It’s a kind of noir, heist thriller with a bit of comedy all tangled up in a family-set drama.’ The production showcases a talented cast and crew dedicated to delivering high-quality theater.

Scenic designer Emily Douville contributes a simple, clean set that enhances the story’s tension. The lighting, managed by Ray Harris, maintains an unobtrusive glow, complementing the action. Costume designer Jack Myers successfully captures the characters’ personalities through contemporary outfits, ranging from suits to casual wear.

At the heart of the story are estranged half-sisters Jackie and Mary, who, following their mother’s death, find themselves entangled in a dangerous game over a stamp collection. Jackie, portrayed by Katherine Wettermann, is described as feisty and explosive, particularly effective in her scenes with male characters. Mary, played by Sara Mountjoy-Pepka, is presented as genteel yet manipulative.

The cast also includes Frank Menolascino as Dennis, a charming collector who offers comic relief, and Guy Sullivan as Sterling, a wealthy and intense stamp collector. Phil Aman rounds out the cast as Phil, the knowledgeable shop owner.

As the sisters grapple with their inheritance, the narrative reveals the complexities of family dynamics and the dramatic stakes involved in stamp collecting. The stakes are high with potential millions at risk, particularly over rare items like the inverted Jenny and two Mauritius penny stamps.

Parker Players, named after the late Marc Parker, aims to create immersive theater experiences. With ‘Mauritius,’ they invite audiences to discover the thrilling yet risky world of stamp collecting.

The show is intended for mature audiences and promises an engaging theatrical experience.
