Patti Labelle And Common Performance Dnc

The Democratic National Convention lit up on Tuesday night in Chicago with powerhouse performances from artists Patti LaBelle and Common. The event took place at the United Center and celebrated Vice President Kamala Harris‘s presidential nomination.

Patti LaBelle took center stage to perform her popular song from 1978, “You Are My Friend,” during a heartfelt in memoriam segment. Strikingly dressed in black lace and a white blouse, LaBelle captivated the audience, singing, “Your love has made me realize my future looks bright to me.” The tribute honored those lost, as former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu introduced the segment.

Following LaBelle’s emotional performance, Common, a Grammy-winning rapper, also took the stage. He teamed up with fellow Chicago native Jonathan McReynolds to perform their new mash-up of the song “Fortunate.” Common encouraged the crowd by saying, “Be fortunate, y’all, for Kamala Harris,” showing his support for the vice president.

The theme of the night’s program was “A Bold Vision for America’s Future,” featuring special remarks from notable figures including former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama. The DNC highlighted Kamala Harris’s growing momentum in the race, as recent polls indicated a shift in favor of her candidacy.
