Paul Merson Joins Strictly Come Dancing

Paul Merson will be stepping away from his usual role on Soccer Saturday for up to three months as he joins the cast of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 56-year-old former football star, known for his candid views as a pundit, will be trading in the football pitch for the dance floor.

As a regular on Sky Sports, Merson has become a familiar face on shows like Soccer Saturday and Super Sunday. With the new series of Strictly starting in September, he may find himself out of the game for a while.

During the competition, celebrities perform live every Saturday night, and Merson will be in training throughout the week. He’s fully aware that this will be a big commitment.

Merson recently shared on The One Show that he might have a tough time getting the hang of dancing, as he has only danced three times in his life, all of which were at his wedding.

He admitted that the whole experience would be nerve-wracking, saying, “I don’t like lying… I’m sure when it starts I’ll be nervous, no doubt about it.”

However, Merson is determined to give it his all. “I play to win, and it won’t be through lack of trying,” he cheerfully stated, adding, “Here’s hoping my two left feet can learn some moves!”
