Payment Schedule Changes for SSI Recipients in 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced upcoming changes to the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment schedule for 2025, impacting how and when recipients will receive their benefits.
Beneficiaries of SSI, which assists individuals who are disabled or have limited resources, will experience adjustments in their payment schedules during certain months. Recipients typically receive their monthly payments on the first day of the month, however, adjustments occur if the day falls on a federal holiday or weekend.
For instance, the April SSI payment is set to be delivered on April 1, which is a Tuesday. However, in May, SSI beneficiaries will receive two payments – the regular payment on May 1 and an early payment for June on May 30, as June 1 falls on a weekend.
According to the SSA, this schedule will result in no payment for SSI recipients in June, as they will not receive additional funds during that month. Similar adjustments will occur in August and October, resulting in two payments during those months but none the following months, September and November respectively.
“About one-third of those who receive SSI also qualify for Social Security benefits, which have their own payment structures,” said a representative from the SSA. Traditional Social Security payments roll out mostly on Wednesdays, which vary monthly based on recipients’ birthdates.
Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of the month receive payments on the second Wednesday, those with birthdates from the 11th to 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and those born after the 20th on the fourth Wednesday. Individuals who began receiving Social Security benefits prior to May 1997 receive their payments on the third of the month.
Simplifying pensions for specific groups, SSI is designed for people aged 65 and older, individuals who are blind, and those with qualifying disabilities. It also applies to qualifying children.
Typically, applicants for SSI must not earn more than $1,064 a month. Interested parties can begin the application process by visiting their local SSA office or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) during business hours.
The SSA is also implementing tighter identity verification measures starting March 31, emphasizing the need for online identity proofing for new applicants.
This shift in payment schedules highlights ongoing adjustments made by the SSA to accommodate beneficiaries’ needs while navigating the complexities of federal payment systems.
