PayPal and Venmo Experiencing Widespread Outage Affecting Users

SAN JOSE, California — PayPal and its mobile payment app Venmo are facing major outages, leaving thousands of users unable to access their accounts. Reports of the issues began surfacing Thursday morning around 9 a.m. with abrupt spikes in complaints on Down Detector, reaching over 6,000.
Users have taken to social media to express frustration, with many unable to log into their accounts or check their balances. Customers have noted the inability to withdraw funds, raising serious concerns about access to their money. “What’s up guys? I can’t even turn my debit card on to use it. I’m locked out of my money,” posted one user.
Despite the influx of complaints, PayPal’s status page still indicates that all systems are operational. However, the discrepancy has not gone unnoticed, as customer service on social media confirmed they are investigating the ongoing issues. “We understand the inconvenience you are facing at the moment. Please be assured that our team is working on the ongoing issue and will try to resolve it at the earliest,” said a representative from PayPal.
Experts warn that downtime for payment processing apps can significantly disrupt daily activities, as many people rely on these services for food deliveries and other urgent transactions. “It’s especially concerning when people can’t access their money,” noted one observer on social media.
The problems reportedly seem to affect American customers predominantly, while users in other regions, like the UK, are experiencing fewer issues. As of late Thursday morning, both PayPal and Venmo teams appear to be working diligently to restore service.
