Actress and DJ Pearl Thusi has stepped up to defend Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a contestant in the Miss South Africa pageant, who has been facing harsh criticism on social media.

Chidimma, who was born in South Africa, has come under fire from detractors questioning her eligibility to represent the country because of her Nigerian heritage. Despite being a South African by birth, many online have debated whether she is suitable as an ambassador for the nation.

In a video shared on social media, Pearl addressed these trolls, pointing out the unfairness of shaming Chidimma simply for being a black woman in a beauty pageant.

Pearl emphasized that Chidimma was born and raised in South Africa, making her a South African, regardless of her parents’ background. She highlighted the hypocrisy in how people often embrace athletes and public figures from diverse backgrounds without question.

“If she was a white girl and she was half French, half something else, you guys might have never even noticed,” Pearl stated, pointing out that the issue is more apparent due to Chidimma’s race.

Pearl also reminded everyone that South Africa is filled with individuals in various sectors whose parents are not South African, yet they are accepted without scrutiny.
