Early Life and Education

In 2003, Obi was elected Governor of Anambra State on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He was impeached by the Anambra State House of Assembly in 2006, but he was reinstated by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2007. Obi served as Governor of Anambra State for two terms, from 2006 to 2014.

As Governor of Anambra State, Obi implemented a number of reforms, including the improvement of infrastructure, the promotion of education, and the fight against corruption. He is also credited with reducing the debt of Anambra State by over 90%.

In 2019, Obi was the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 Nigerian general election. He and his running mate, Atiku Abubakar, lost the election to Muhammadu Buhari and Yemi Osinbajo.
