PORTSMOUTH, England — Kinetic Games has unveiled an ambitious 2025 roadmap for its popular horror game, Phasmophobia, revealing exciting updates that aim to enhance gameplay and player experience. The announcement comes as the game expands to consoles after selling over 20 million copies on PC and more than 2 million on consoles.
The roadmap details significant changes to the game’s mechanics, including a new feature called ‘Chronicle‘ that will transform how players document evidence of supernatural entities while hunting ghosts. According to a recent press release, Chronicle will revamp the existing journal, replacing the Photos tab with a Media tab that includes sections for photos, videos, and sound recordings. This aims to streamline evidence collection and improve user experience.
“The first major update coming to the definitive horror game is Chronicle,” Kinetic Games stated in the press release. “With this update, players can log any photographic, audio, or visual evidence on the corresponding pages, allowing them to capture and reflect on their terrifying encounters with ghosts.”
The update will also introduce a player’s first capture of any media type labeled as ‘Unique,’ greatly increasing cash and experience point rewards at the end of each contract. In contrast, duplicate captures will yield lower rewards.
Adding to the list of enhancements, players can expect the new Sound Recorder tool, which is designed to capture unique paranormal sounds during their investigations. “Players brave enough to record these eerie sounds will be able to listen back to their findings in the updated journal,” Kinetic Games noted.
The upcoming Character Overhaul is another highly anticipated feature. This update will introduce new player characters, refreshing the cast that many players have grown used to since the game’s inception. The development team expressed excitement at the prospect of new characters joining the fray.
“We can’t wait to see some new blood join the fray,” one developer commented. “It’s going to be jarring for a bit, but we’re excited about the changes.”
Additionally, the game will receive updates to existing maps, particularly Bleasdale and Grafton Farmhouses, which will undergo significant redesigns. Players will find new locations for ghost hauntings and enhanced visual details. A new, smaller map is also teased for release.
Fans can also look forward to seasonal updates, with plans for Easter, Halloween, and other holiday-themed events over the next couple of years. “Our early access period so far has given us a fantastic opportunity to listen to our players, and the big changes we’re making are a direct reflection of the feedback we’re seeing,” said Daniel Knight (Dknighter), Director of Kinetic Games.
The full rollout of these ambitious updates is expected to evolve the game’s landscape significantly, providing players with an even more immersive experience. “We’re really proud of the direction Phasmophobia is going in, thanks in no small part to our amazing community,” Knight added.
